On 2012 April 30th, at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, the Italian National Commission for UNESCO celebrates the first “UNESCO International Day of Jazz”. The event is a tribute to a musical style born in the United States, at the beginning of 1900, from the mix of African and European culture, and then spread throughout the world.
With the establishment of the “International Day of Jazz”,on April 30th worldwide, UNESCO recognizes the jazz as an international form of art, a means of communication that transcends differences of race , religion, ethnicity or nationality, a formidable instrument of intercultural dialogue, of unification and of peaceful coexistence.
On April 30th, at the hall Petrassi of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, you can listen to: Danilo Rea on piano, Enzo Pietropaoli on bass and Jeff Ballard on drums. The entry is free with the vouchers given at the information point of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome from April 20th until all the places have been filled.

The Cinque Terre and the Ligurian coast, a unique ecosystem, UNESCO Heritage, seemed to have been swept away by the flood of 2011, October 25, but just after a few months, are back as one of the most beautiful tourist places of the Mediterranean.
The areas hit by the flood have worked hard to bring the situation back to normal, thanks to joint efforts between municipalities and Liguria Region and above all thanks to the fortitude of its people.
The decisive date was the Easter holidays that have marked the end of the emergency and the start of a new life. The first days of April, several activities and public establishments, which were closed, reopen to accommodate tourists.
Even many of the beautiful trails that pass through the vineyards above the sea, are accesible again. These paths are now one of the best ways to appreciate the Cinque Terre and eastern coast.
In this context it is also important the launch of the new website of the Park, dedicated to the situation of the path network, which will provide official and updated information about the accessibility of the trails.

Update information about the trails are available on the following website: http://www.parconazionale5terre.it/

There is a very special way to visit all of Italy: Italia in Miniatura .
The miniature theme park, realized in 1970, and placed in Rimini, is visited annually by over 500,000 people.
The park offers a path through 272 architectural and scenic wonders, meticulously reproduced to scale, surrounded by a spectacular green landscape.
Ivo Rambaldi, after visited a park in miniature abroad in the second half of the 60s, decided to build a similar park in Italy, to give everybody the chance to admire the most beautiful works of the Italian architectural heritage, as in a large 3D map.
On 1970, July 4th Italia in Miniatura was open to the public, thanks to the first 50 miniatures. From then on the park has welcomed 30 million visitors.
The park wants to transform art, environmental education, science and history into a fun experience for everybody.

From April 3rd to July 1st Palazzo Pitti celebrates Japanese art, culture, and traditions. The event, fruit of a cultural exchange between Italy and Japan, will be articulated in three distinct exhibitions.

The Museo degli Argenti hosts the exhibition “About Line and Colour”, that traces the evolution of three-hundred years of Japanese art through painting, calligraphy, ceramics and fabrics of high quality. The works exhibited are on loan from prestigious Japanese, European and Italian museums.

The significant increase in international arrivals (+4.4% in 2011 compared to 2010, with prospects for growth in 2012) makes us reflect on this economic, social and cultural phenomenon.

Tourism demand is directed towards countries offering attractions of great prestige but also services and infrastructure that meet tourists needs.

From this point of view, Europe still has the best results.

Europe will have to be careful to Asia and Latin America, that especially in quantity and quality of services, are becoming increasingly competitive.
The nearly one billion tourists of today, could increase substantially within a decade. It is important that all countries take strategies to attract tourists, especially Italy (covering the 5th position in the world for number of international tourists arrivals).

A tourism policy focused on the future is based on at least three key points.

The development of a network of services and infrastructure that meets the mobility needs of tourists.

The accomodations have to garantee a good price/quality ratio, trasparency and skilled staff.

A plan for investment, especially in the services side.

The tradition of Easter in Sicily is one of the most exciting in Italy. There are many rituals related to the celebration of Easter, they have origin from the Iberian traditions, from the medieval Christian traditions in which the zeal expresses itself in the struggle of “good” against “evil”. These celebrations have also origin from pre-Christian traditions, linked to the cycle of wheat, and the celebration of death and rebirth of vegetation.

Of Spanish origin are the Holy Week in Enna and the procession of the Mysteries in Trapani. In many other centers of the island the liturgies of the representation of the passion and death of Christ are still celebrated with ancient rituals mediated by the Iberian tradition. On Easter Sunday in Prizzi go on stage “The Dance of the Devils,” the struggle of “good” against “evil”: angels with sword defeat devils and the death looks for souls through the streets of the country. The same day in San Biagio Platani you can join the party of “Easter Arches” in which the encounter between the risen Jesus and the Virgin takes place under the “Central Arches” decorated with willow branches, bay leaves, rosemary, cereals, dates and bread, each one contains a strong symbolic meaning.

Of great appeal is also the celebration of Easter in Piana degli Albanesi, Contessa Entellina, S. Cristina Gela, Mezzojuso and Palazzo Adriano, where are mixed Christian, Catholic, Byzantine and Greek customs. These celebrations culminate on Easter Sunday with the songs of anésti Kristos (risen Christ).

Holy Week in Sardinia is a unique and exciting experience. The celebrations during the week before Easter blend secular rituals of ancient Iberian origin with local, religious and mystic customs (campidanesi, logudoresi and barbarian) of pre-Christian origins who celebrate the death and rebirth of vegetation.
From Oliena to Aggius, from Aidomaggiore to Cuglieri, from Desulo to Galtellì, from Santulussurgiu to Orosei are performed rituals, processions and choral moments of great expressive force and charm.
The procession of the Mysteries, the touching rites of Deposition of the cross (“Su Scravamentu”) and the encounter in the city streets between Jesus and Madonna (“S’Incontru”), are the expression of the moving celebration of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ.
An important role is played by Brotherhoods who organize the mystery plays and parade in their picturesque costumes, singing religious songs in Latin and Sardinian, as the famous song of Miserere by Santu Lussurgiu.
