7. My British driving licence is at the DVLC Office (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre) for the necessary renewal procedure. The driving licence is still valid and I made a colour photocopy, front/back, of it. Am I allowed to drive in Italy with this copy of the document?
The Charter of Tourists Rights (March 29th, 2001, No. 135, Art. 4) establishes that holders of a valid driving licence, issued by a Member State in the European Union, can drive in Italy vehicles corresponding to the category of their specific typology of driving licence. This must be the original copy (not a photocopy). It is also possible to drive vehicles in Italy with a copy of the driving licence issued by the authorised office in the United Kingdom (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency).
