1.  Are minimum train transport services guaranteed in case of strike?
In case of strike Trenitalia guarantees minimum transport services provided as a result of agreements with trade unions and as considered appropriate by the Commission responsable for guaranteeing the implementation of law 146/1990. For local transport in particular, essential services have been planned for the peak time-bands (from 6:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00 Mon-Sat). Some long-distance trains are also guaranteed on all days including holidays. For further information, call the Trenitalia toll number 199 892 021.
2. Travelling by train, can I bring my dog with me?
Small dogs, cats and other small pets are allowed to travel on our trains (kept in dedicated containers no larger than 70x30x50 cm) free of charge in first and second class of all the categories of trains. For trains operated with ETR 450 carriages, the cage/box must be held on your lap. Only one cage/box is allowed per traveller. For individual travellers, a dog of any size can travel (with a muzzle and leash ): On espressi IC and ICN in both first and second class. On regional trains in the aisles or platform of the last carriage except on week-days (Mon-Fri) from7:00 am to  9:00 pm. In these cases if you want to travel with your dog you have to buy a second class ticket at the price applied to the train, reduced by 50%.

3. What does overbooking mean?
The word “overbooking” means that the seats availabe on a aircraft are less than the  number of the confirmed bookings and issued tickets for a given flight. It means that the aircraft takes off wihout a passenger even though he/she was at the ceck in or at the gate in time and with an official confirmed reservation.

4. I am at the railway station, where can I get information about connections to  holiday destinations?
Information about bus links, sea links (ferries) and tram links are given by Trenitalia in a section of the website (available in italian and english) dedicated to connections from railway stations to other destinations.
5. Can I buy a bus ticket on board of a local public bus?

It is advisable to buy the ticket before getting on the bus since not all the buses are provided with automatic ticket machines in Italy.

6. I will be travelling in Italy by train with my one year old son, should I buy a ticket for him as well?

Children under four can travel free of charge in both first and second class, but they are not entitled to any seat. Instead, young people until the age of twelve (age is considered completed on the day following the anniversary of birth), can occupy a seat and they can travel with a 50% or 30% reduction for VL and CC services (sleeping carriages and berths).
